Aiken Bicycle Club Meeting Minutes

Meeting Date: 2/8/2010

Location:  Maria’s

In Attendance: Jay Noonkester Curt Sexton Nancy Lex Tom Lex Bill Matheson Chuck Foster Karen Burns Keith Burns

Minutes:

Jay Noonkester filled in for Mo Mims as Sectary.  Mo had a bad knee injury while being chased and bitten by a pack of feral dogs.  The injury required surgery and he is at home recovering.

Renewed members: Chuck and Lynn Foster Bill and William Matheson

Treasurer report:  The club now has $1586.67

PCC Report:  Tom Lex handed out copies of SC bike laws.  The PCC is working on a $10K grant.  They are currently on the short list to receive this money.  Wish them luck.  The PCC has successfully stopped the DOT from adding rumble strips to many roads across SC.  The DOT now will only add rumble strips to major roads that cyclists do not often use.   Tom’s goal for Aiken is to connect Aiken to N. Augusta with a bike path.

Website:  Everyone seems to like the website (aikenbicycleclub.org).  It is not the perfect website, but should provide most of the club’s needs.  Nancy Lex will send Jay a link to all of the Aiken cycling routes she has mapped in www.mapmyride.com.  Chuck Foster suggested that the club have a face book page to help disseminate information.  It sounded like a good idea but no one in the room knew much about the topic.  For more information about the Century go to aikenbicycleclub.org

2010 Aiken to Ride Century:  2 people have registered through active.com.  Aiken Petsetters (June Crawford) has sponsored the century at $100 and Chuck Foster (Edward Jones) said he would also sponsor the century at an amount not let determined. A suggestion that we have a dignitary start the ride was made.  Names that we brought up were Fred Cavanaugh (Mayor), Roland Smith a state Rep.and cyclists and Jim Stuart a state Rep. who is a runner.   Volunteers so far who have said they will help are Tom and Nancy Lex, Karen Burns, Tom DeMange.  The club members who are the organizers are Curt Sexton Mo Mims and Jay Noonkester.  Let us know if you who like to help.

The food was great at Maria’s as usual.
